Families in Gaza are preparing for a fourth winter living in tents and temporary shelters while international humanitarian operations face severe disruptions. UN News reported that aid transport was suspended on Tuesday because Israel closed the Kerem Shalom border crossing for election day. [1]
The United Nations Office for Project Services, known as UNOPS, reported three security incidents affecting its operations over three consecutive days during the past week. UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva said the incidents included explosions near convoys, drivers being detained at checkpoints, and small-arms gunfire striking an agency guesthouse. [1]
In additional developments across the region, the Palestine Chronicle reported that recent Israeli attacks killed three people in Gaza and displaced more than 200 families after a camp was burned. Meanwhile, the Qatar News Agency cited a Gaza official stating that 123,000 families are currently supported by women following the deaths of primary breadwinners. [3][4]
The ongoing humanitarian emergency follows decades of regional conflict. Wikipedia notes that the Second Intifada, also called the Al-Aqsa Intifada, was a major Palestinian uprising against Israel and its occupation that began in 2000 and ended after the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit in 2005. [5]
