The World Health Organization warned on October 7 that it requires significantly more resources to scale up its medical response in Yemen as conflict intensifies. UN News reported that renewed clashes between Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have escalated in recent weeks. [1]

According to the latest figures from the International Organization for Migration, cited by UN News, more than 200,000 people have been displaced within Yemen. Additionally, close to 3,800 people have fled across the Red Sea to Djibouti. UN News reported that the health agency increased its immediate funding requirements from 9 million dollars to 31 million dollars, alongside a request for 700,000 dollars to support refugees in Djibouti. [1]

The broader Yemeni civil war began in late 2014 primarily between forces aligned with the Presidential Leadership Council and the Houthi-led Supreme Political Council. The Presidential Leadership Council is recognized by the United Nations as the official government of Yemen. [4]

The World Health Organization stated that the situation in Yemen is evolving into a complex emergency as health needs rise while available resources remain strained. [1]
