United States President Donald Trump announced that his administration is looking very strongly at the case of a Russian laboratory technician who died at a plague research centre in Siberia, according to the BBC. United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is watching the situation closely over concerns that the incident could lead to the spread of pneumonic plague, while adding that there is no cause for alarm. [1]

The governor of Irkutsk reported that the technician died from pneumonia of undetermined etiology, the BBC reported. The governor added that no micro-organisms linked to the woman's work were found in her biological samples. [1]

President Donald Trump noted that he had not discussed the matter directly with the Kremlin, the BBC said. [1]
