Russian strikes hit a humanitarian aid center in the Ukrainian village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region on Monday, November 2. Ukrainian officials reported differing casualties following the attack. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Al Jazeera English reported that 40 people were killed, while Euronews Europe initially stated the death toll was at least 37, and earlier reports from the Guardian Europe and Euronews Europe placed the dead at 33. Officials told Al Jazeera English and the BBC News World that about 30 people may remain buried in the rubble, while the Guardian Europe and Euronews Europe reported that more than 50 could be trapped. Bodycam footage released by Ukrainian police captured the moments during the attack. According to the BBC News World and Euronews Europe, the video records local residents gathered outside a former school building where humanitarian aid was being distributed. A military warning of incoming guided aerial bombs crackles over a police radio, prompting officers to direct civilians into an underground shelter located at least two floors below ground. [1][4]

Euronews Europe reported that the bodycam video was recorded by a police officer who was later killed in the strike. Al Jazeera English noted that ongoing rescue efforts at the destroyed site faced repeated interruptions due to the presence of Russian drones operating overhead. [3][4]

The name Ukraine historically derives from terms denoting a borderland or frontier region, first recorded in medieval texts during the twelfth century. The Zaporizhzhia region sits in southeastern Ukraine, where several settlements have faced heavy bombardment during the conflict. [1][2][3][13]
