The Philippines and China held diplomatic talks on November 4 to ease growing tensions ahead of the upcoming regional gathering, Facebook and Rappler reported. Both nations pledged to maintain open dialogue and committed to diplomacy despite ongoing maritime disputes, according to reports from The China-Global South Project and the Daily Tribune. [1][7][8][9]

The diplomatic efforts come directly ahead of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit. Inquirer.net reported that Premier Li Keqiang of China is expected to attend the gathering hosted by the Philippines, while President Xi Jinping will not be present. GMA Network reported that Philippine officials expressed confidence that recent statements from China would not affect the regional meeting scheduled for November. [1][10][11]

As FTMQ World reported earlier, the Philippine government officially launched its countdown to the summit in Pasay City, with regional meetings scheduled to open on November 15 in Metro Manila. The ASEAN Summit is a biannual meeting where leaders gather to discuss economic, political, security, and socio-cultural development across Southeast Asian nations. [12][15]

Separate reports from news.sbs.co.kr indicated that China also stated it will continue to implement its bilateral summit agreements with the United States following recent American midterm elections. Meanwhile, Xinhua reported that China highlighted its open-source artificial intelligence initiatives at the World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit. [2][4][6]
