Three-quarters of the global total of forcibly displaced people live in countries with high exposure to climate hazards, France 24 reported from a United Nations refugee agency statement. The announcement came on Friday ahead of the COP31 climate summit scheduled to take place in Turkey. [1]

The UN agency reported that nearly 90 million refugees and forcibly displaced individuals face severe risks connected to a warming planet. Anton Leis Garcia, an assistant high commissioner at the agency, stated that refugees suffer from a double injustice due to these conditions. [1]

Present-day climate change involves an increase in global average temperatures driven largely by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices. These activities release greenhouse gases that absorb heat in the lower atmosphere, leaving Earth's atmosphere with roughly 50 percent more carbon dioxide than before. [2]

The United Nations refugee agency urged immediate international action to protect vulnerable displaced populations living in danger zones ahead of the upcoming climate negotiations in Turkey. [1]
