Organisers of the French centre-left primary reported that more than half of registered voters have cast their ballots after a cyberattack disrupted the opening day of voting. The online election process was extended and will now run until Sunday at 6 p.m., Euronews reported. [1]
By midday on Saturday, 87,841 ballots were cast, which represents 62.6 percent of the 140,282 registered voters. Euronews reported that only 20,000 people had managed to submit their votes by Friday evening at 7 p.m. due to the cyberattack slowing down the platform. [1]
Around 140,000 voters are selecting from five candidates for the Socialist nomination. Organisers told Euronews that overall turnout is crucial for measuring the success of the all-online primary and establishing the winner's legitimacy ahead of the 2027 French presidential election. [1]
