Canada head coach and former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has called for Manchester City to face relegation over breaches of Premier League financial regulations. Al Jazeera and Tribuna reported that Mr Marsch believes the English club must be punished severely after being found guilty of financial wrongdoing over nine seasons spanning from 2009-10 to 2017-18. [1][2][3][4]
According to Al Jazeera, the Premier League alleged that Manchester City used sham commercial contracts to understate their costs and inflate revenue by more than 900 million pounds, which equals approximately 1.19 billion dollars. Mr Marsch stated that his past experience managing against the club left him convinced that there were inconsistencies in how the organization operated. [1]
The former manager alleged that financial wrongdoing by Manchester City was widely known among other teams in the Premier League. Tribuna and Goal reported that Mr Marsch urged football authorities to throw the book at the club, saying they should have to go down immediately because of their actions. [1][3][4]
Manchester City Football Club was originally founded in 1880 as Saint Mark's before taking its current name in 1894. The team competes in the top flight of English football and has played its home matches at the City of Manchester Stadium since 2003. [5]
